The Mystic Light:

"Christ Jesus said: "I come not to bring peace, but a sword." Many people have been unable to reconcile this statement with the Christ Teachings of Love and Peace. An explanation of the statement does exist, however, which enables us to know its true meaning as well as to know what will be necessary before peace can reign on Earth. In John 10:16, we read that Christ Jesus also said: "..there shall be one fold and one shepherd." This indicates that all people eventually must arrive at a state of unity under His leadership.

History has been a record largely of conflicts and wars among races and nations. Differences of ideals, religions, physical characteristics, languages and government fostered separativeness, and this fact, coupled with the innate selfishness of unperfected man, resulted in continual competition and turmoil down through the centuries.

The first race was established at the end of the Lemurian Epoch, when "there was a small part of nascent humanity who were sufficiently advanced so that a germinal mind could be given them and the Spirit could commence slowly to draw into its vehicles." The beginning of separate nations was fostered during the middle third of the Atlantean Epoch. Groups of people who had similar habits and tastes came together and founded new colonies. Races were placed under the care of Race Spirits (Archangels), who gave their charges strict laws and instant rewards and punishments. They guided their charges to different climates and different parts of the Earth. Race Spirits foster patriotism and instigate wars when such drastic measures are necessary, thus intensifying the separativeness that exists among different peoples.

Obviously, as long as humanity remains divided into races and nations, each aggressively fostering its own aims and purposes, "peace on Earth" and "good will among men" is not possible. Only when all nations and races have united in brotherhood will peace be possible.

Man, whose destiny is to grow, progress, and unfold his inner potentials by responding to the spiritual influences directed toward him, must become self-reliant, emancipated from all external influences, including those of the Race Spirits.

The coming of the Christ Ray as indwelling Planetary Spirit of our Earth began the emancipation of human beings, not only from the enveloping powers of the Race Spirits, but also from their own Lucifer-tainted desires. The vibrations of the Christ Love-Power radiating from within the Earth cleansed the desire stuff surrounding our planet and made it possible for man to secure purer desire stuff for his individual desire body. His Love-Power works particularly through the etheric or vital body of man, and 'when we release ourselves from the toils of the desire body and live up to the vibrations of the vital body, we become imbued with the Christ Spirit. Then and only then do we rise out of the national principle and become capable of being brothers to men.'" ...MORE »

Studies in the Cosmo-Conception:

Q. How important is the actual time of death to the Ego?
A. When the silver cord is loosened in the heart and man has been released from his dense body, a moment of the highest importance comes to the Ego, that of previewing the life just ended, and a great deal of the value of the past life depends upon how much attention the Spirit can give to this matter.

Q. How does this relate to the bereaved?
A. It cannot be too seriously impressed upon the relatives of a dying person that it is a great crime against the departing person to give expression to loud grief and lamentations which naturally would distract the Ego from its concentration on the panorama it now reviews.

Q. How would stimulants affect the situation?
A. It is also a crime against the dying to administer stimulants which have the effect of forcing the higher vehicles back into the dense body with a jerk, thus imparting a great shock to the man. It is no torture to pass out but it as torture to be dragged back to endure further suffering.

Q. Is there evidence to support this statement?
A. Some who have passed out told investigators that they had, in that way, been kept dying for hours and had prayed that their relatives would cease their mistaken kindness and let them die.

Q. What is the process involved in retrospection at death?
A. When the man is freed from the dense body, which was the heaviest clog upon his spiritual power (like the heavy mitten on the hand of a musician), his spiritual power comes in some measure and he is able to read the pictures in the negative pole of the reflecting ether of his vital body, which is the seat of the sub-conscious memory.

Q. What order do these pictures follow?
A. The whole of his past life passes before his sight like a panorama, the events being presented in reverse order. The incidents of the days immediately preceding death come first and so on back through manhood or womanhood to youth, childhood, and infancy. Everything is remembered.

Q. How does this affect the individual?
A. The man stands as a spectator before this panorama of his past life. He sees the pictures as they pass and impress themselves upon his higher vehicles, but he has no feeling about them at this time. That is reserved until the time when he enters into the Desire World, which is the world of feeling and emotion. At present he is only in the Etheric Region of the Physical World.

Q. How long does this retrospection last?
A. This panorama lasts from a few hours to several days, depending upon the length of time the man could keep awake, if necessary.

Q. To what might this be likened?
A. This feature of life after death is similar to that which takes place when one is drowning or falling from a height. In such cases the vital body also leaves the dense body and the man sees his life in a flash because he loses consciousness at once. Of course the silver cord is not broken or there could be no resuscitation." ...MORE »

Max Heindel's Message:

"The scientific method of soul unfoldment advocated by the Elder Brothers of the Rosicrucian Order is always bound to benefit everyone who practices it and can never under any circumstances cause any harm to anyone.

The method of soul growth as accomplished by the process of evolution requires action in the physical life, followed in the post-mortem state by a ruminative process, during which the lessons of life are extracted and thoroughly incorporated into the consciousness of the Ego.

If we endeavor intelligently, when considering the problems of life exemplified in the actions of those about us, as well as our own actions, to seek out the principle of Epigenesis and watch its operation, we shall find opportunities for initiative action opening up before us to an extent we have never before believed possible." ...MORE »

Western Wisdom Bible Study:

An understanding of the inner meaning of the Crucifixion reveals this experience as a glorious consummation of the Way of the Cross. Instead of exclaiming, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? " Christ Jesus actually cried in exultation, "My God, my God, how thou hast glorified me." The liberation of the Christ Spirit from the bodies of the man Jesus made it possible that the Earth receive an indwelling Planetary Spirit, and the coming of this powerful purifying Force made it possible for all who will to enter the path of initiation and attain to heights of spiritual glory.

The superscription placed on Christ Jesus' cross, Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, gives the key to what takes place in man's body on the Path of Initiation. The letters INRI represent the names of the four elements in Hebrew: Iam, water; Nour, fire; Rauch spirit or vital air; and Iabeshah, earth. Of these is the human being made, and through their spiritualization he comes to the point, as had Jesus, where he can step out of his lower vehicles and travel in his soul body. As Max Heindel tells us:

"This stage of the Christian Mystic's spiritual development involves a reversal of the creative force from its ordinary downward course to an upward course through the tripartite spinal cord, whose three segments are ruled by the Moon, Mars, and Mercury respectively, and where the rays of Neptune then light the regenerative Spirit Fire.

"This mounting upward sets the pituitary body and the pineal gland into vibration, opening up the spiritual sight; and striking the frontal sinus it starts the crown of thorns throbbing with pain as the bond with the physical body is burned by the sacred Spirit Fire, which wakes this center from its age-long sleep to a throbbing, pulsating life sweeping onward to the other centers in the five-pointed stigmatic star. They are also vitalized, and the whole vehicle becomes aglow with a golden glory.

"Then with a final wrench the great vortex of the desire body located in the liver is liberated, and the martial energy contained in that vehicle propels upward the sidereal vehicle (so-called because the stigmata in the head, hands, and feet are located in the same positions relative to one another as the points in a five-pointed star), which ascends through the skull (Golgotha), while the crucified Christian utters his triumphant cry, Consummatum est (it has been accomplished), and soars into the subtler spheres to seek Jesus, whose life he has imitated with such success and from whom he is thenceforth inseparable." ...MORE »

Spiritual Astrology:

"The hands of the clock show the time of events in daily life, but they would remain inert and motionless were they not propelled onward by a force in the hidden spring. Their stoppage might cause us to miss an appointment. The visible planets also mark events of life like the hands of a clock; they also are propelled in their courses by an unseen force analogous to the spring in a clock, except that the Great Spirits whose bodies they are never stop, and therefore we never miss an appointment registered upon the clock of destiny, although we may cancel it — under certain circumstances — as we do engagements in ordinary life.

"It is said of Edison that when he was night operator in a railway telegraph office, he put a pail upon a shelf, led a hose from a faucet into it, turned on a small stream of water calculated to fill the pail before the next train was due, placed his chair under the pail, and went to sleep. The overflowing water compelled him to waken and attend to business as no alarm could have done. We are all turning a constant stream of actions for good or ill into the reservoir of time, and the overflow is always coming back to us and impelling us to new deeds. It does not matter if we have gone to sleep as Edison; even the sleep of death cannot abrogate the deeds of the immortal spirit. A new birth brings each back exactly when his pail of time is full, so that he may reap what he has sown.

"It is of the greatest importance that you should understand this viewpoint very thoroughly. We do not have a certain fate because we are born at a certain moment and impelled by stellar rays then prevailing. If so, we should then have a right to rail at fate for being born under an evil star without choice or prerogative. We should then hate God for making us subject to such a fate. Edison would have had a right to be provoked if any one had awakened him in the manner described, but knowing that his own act before going to sleep had caused the wetting and realizing the benefit of the heroic treatment, he probably felt well pleased. So with us, if we realize that our own past acts are the determinators of our conditions and that the stars simply mark the most favorable time for harvesting what we have sown, we shall be more contented and seek to learn the lessons of life instead of railing because of what we lack in faculty or fortune." ...MORE »
